I know, I know, desserts aren’t the focus when we talk about Paleo and clean eating. Trust, I’m the first to recommend that most people need to worry less about sweets and more about greens. BUT, sometimes you just need a chocolate fix and real, raw cacao has some serious health benefits. For real though, cacao is packed with antioxidants, magnesium and polyphenols all of which can benefit your cardiovascular health, help to reduce stress, and pack a powerful anti aging punch. See, chocolate is your friend! Because I love you and want you to have your chocolate and eat it to, here’s a recipe that combines the amazing benefits of avocado with raw cacao. It’s also the perfect make ahead dessert for a dinner party since it can chill inthe fridge overnight. And if anyone asks, it’s not only Paleo but vegan and raw too 😉


Yields – 4-6 servings, about 2 cups

5 small, soft, super ripe avocados
2/3 cup raw cacao powder
2/3 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond extract

Optional toppings: large grain sea salt, pistachios, cacao nibs, shredded coconut, berries – anything else you can dream up!

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and blend with an immersion blender until completely smooth and no green flecks are left, about2- 3 minutes. Pour into rammekins or a container and chill for at least 15 minutes before serving. You can also use a food processors with the same process, just scrape it down and continue processing on high until it’s smooth and there are no green flecks of avocado left.
